Programme — Competitiveness and Innovation in Enterprises

On 03.12.2024 Soriko Ltd. and the Ministry of Innovation and Growth signed an administrative contract for the provision of grant funding for the “Soriko Smart Waste” project. The project was approved for funding under the “Competitiveness and Innovation in Enterprises” Programme 2021–2027 (PCIE), procedure No. BG16RFPR001-1.003 “Implementation of Innovations in Enterprises”.

Co-funded by the European Union

With a total budget of BGN 1,752,820, the project will be carried out over 15 months: 45% of the funds are provided as a grant, and the remaining 55% is co-financed by Soriko Ltd.

The aim of the project is to introduce an intelligent system for optimised waste collection and removal. This innovation will make it possible to tailor services to the actual consumption of the end customer, applying the “polluter pays” principle. It will encourage socially responsible behaviour among users and optimise costs for households and businesses alike.

The project falls within the thematic area “Mechatronics and Microelectronics”, sub-area “Intelligent systems and devices, including those using artificial intelligence”, under the Innovation Strategy for Smart Specialisation 2021–2027 (ISSS 2021–2027).

The project will introduce:

  • 7 specialised kits for installation and operation on refuse collection vehicles;
  • 5 hardware devices for collecting, analysing and processing data;
  • 1 system for technical inspection, installation/removal, cleaning and calibration of the specialised kits;
  • 1 software platform for managing and optimising the processes.

The system will include individual identification of containers using RFID chips and real-time measurement of the amount of waste. The innovation will provide two-way communication between users and the system, allowing feedback and visualisation of the waste generated, as well as social comparisons. This functionality will encourage responsible behaviour and help protect the environment.

Through the successful implementation of the project, Soriko Ltd. will achieve:

  • Greater efficiency and profitability in waste collection and removal.
  • Optimised costs for both the company and end users.
  • Less waste thanks to the encouragement of socially responsible behaviour.
  • Sustainable development and a contribution to the European Union’s circular economy goals.

Project No. BG16RFPR001-1.003-0529 “Soriko Smart Waste” is being carried out with the financial support of the European Union under the “Competitiveness and Innovation in Enterprises” Programme 2021–2027. This innovation will be an example of how technology and social responsibility can be combined to create a better future for everyone.
