Where and when?

1 kg of plastic = 1 book

The national “Books for Rubbish” campaign comes to Stara Zagora this Saturday, 31 May. The event will take place from 10:00 to 13:00 at the Kaufland car park at 2 Stamo Pulev Street.

Anyone can get a free book in exchange for one kilogram of plastic waste suitable for recycling. The recycling company in Stara Zagora is Soriko Ltd., which is contributing one more title to the collection – “Be the Change”, an inspiring guide to sustainable living. The company is taking part in the initiative as part of its long-term commitment and a series of initiatives for sustainable living and the promotion of recycling.

Sustainable green habits

With this initiative, the people of Stara Zagora get the chance to pick up new books and do something good for nature at the same time. Kaufland has supported “Books for Rubbish” for the seventh year in a row, believing in the importance of building sustainable green habits.

Collect the “Cyrillic” series

This year the initiative runs under the motto “The Letters That Connect Us – Collect the ‘Cyrillic’ Series”, with books inspired by the Bulgarian alphabet. The new titles include “Here You Go, Seven – Italian Tales” (for the letter Е) and “Victim of the State Lottery” (for the letter Ж), adding to last year’s letters “А”, “Б”, “В”, “Г” and “Д” in the collectible series from Smart Books publishing house.

One book per person

Every participant is entitled to one book, regardless of the amount of waste handed in. The plastic will be recycled by Soriko Ltd., a partner of the initiative.

100 kg of plastic – an achievable goal

The most sought-after books are those for children, along with the various titles about Bulgaria. One of the most impressive examples from this year’s event in Vratsa was Slaveyche Kindergarten, whose children collected more than 100 kilograms of plastic.

The educational side of the campaign

In many towns it is common practice for pupils and children from schools and kindergartens to take part in the campaign as organised groups, which adds to its educational character.

Next up…

After Stara Zagora, the campaign moves on to Burgas on 1 June.

“Books for Rubbish” is organised by the Credo Bonum Foundation and Smart Books publishing house, with the support of Kaufland Bulgaria and local municipalities, and in Stara Zagora with the assistance of Soriko Ltd.
